Graphic PLC installs Gemini- X Linear Plus

Graphic PLC – A UK manufacturer of high technology, high reliability PCBs are pleased to announce the installation of the XACTPCB Ltd Gemini-X Linear Plus Registration System.

Graphic, based in Crediton / Devon, is viewed as one of Europe’s premier suppliers of high technology rigid and rigid flex PCBs, supplying customers across the world in the Medical, Military, Aerospace and Industrial sectors with high technology, quality products in small to medium volumes in the UK and medium to high volumes in China.

The purchase of the Gemini-X Linear Plus Registration System provides Graphic with a new level of registration control and the ability to accurately predict inner layer scale distortion at CAM prior to shop floor release and to link these predictions to advanced post-lamination optimizers, allowing continuous improvement of production yield and speed of output.

Paul Comer, Technical Director of Graphic said “ all areas of our business feed into a comprehensive continuous improvement plan that is reviewed regularly to ensure it is aligned to our overall business objectives - we see the installation of the Gemini-X registration system as a key part of our manufacturing objectives. With this unique ability to predict and compensate for linear distortion on complex product, we can improve our performance on current technology and prepare for the registration issues created by emerging technologies whether created by materials or feature sizes and density. “

Andrew Kelley , Technical Director of XACTPCB Ltd said “ we are excited to be working with Graphic PLC on this integrated solution, our Gemini-X Linear Plus registration system will link seamlessly into Graphic’s CAM and ERP systems and X-Ray Optimiser, forming the backbone of their advanced registration system and further increasing the Crediton site’s technical capability “

Polar Instruments and Xact PCB Integration

Polar Instruments and Xact PCB announce a new level of integration between Polar’s Speedstack controlled-impedance PCB stackup system and Xact’s Gemini-X PCB registration, prediction and control system.

Xact’s Gemini-X PCB registration prediction and control system allows fabricators of high-density PCBs to identify and control registration and compensate for the distortion which occurs during manufacturing processes. Polar Instruments’ Speedstack reduces the time required for controlled-impedance PCB stack-up design. Used separately, each of these tools reduces fabrication errors and increases manufacturing yields. The new integration, however, adds the capability to predict and compensate for registration and distortion errors during stack-up design.

Polar’s Sales & Marketing Director, Martyn Gaudion explains: "Many of our customers are already using both tools side-by-side during PCB design, so providing this new level of integration is a logical progression which allows them to access the capabilities of both systems in a single, more streamlined process. Integrating impedance control with the predictive elimination of errors during the stack-up adds a new dimension to PCB design which significantly increases the manufacturing yield and reduces costs."

Polar’s Speedstack controlled-impedance stack-up builder can be integrated with Xact’s Linear+ and NonLinear+ predictive versions of the Gemini-X inner-layer registration control system. Xact’s self-learning model constantly analyses design and measurement information to predict the movement that will occur during PCB fabrication. The new link allows fabricators to view powerful visualisations of the stack-up incorporating dynamic prediction of the layer by layer scale factors, hence reducing engineering time and increasing the integrity and manufacturing yield of high-density PCBs.

Coretec Inc and XACT PCB announce roll-out of Gemini-X Advanced Registration System

Coretec Inc has announced the continued deployment of XACT PCB's Gemini-X PCB registration system at the company's Denver facility.

Gareth Parry, CTO of Coretec Inc said "The Gemini-X system from XACT PCB was installed in our Toronto operation at the start of this year and it has given us a significant yield and leadtime advantage on complex high-layer-count production. Our Denver facility targets leading-edge quick turn prototype and mid-volume production and we have recently installed the Excellon Intelli-Drill® to further increase its capability. We have adopted the XACT Gemini-X software to further increase advanced registration capability across our sites."

Neil Chilton, Sales and Marketing Director of XACT PCB said "we are delighted that Coretec have implemented our Gemini-X Linear Plus registration system in the two divisions. The system has demonstrated a proven advantage in Coretec Toronto and we are confident of further improvements in yield and capability the Denver facility too." readmore

Andrew Kelley (Technical Director) is to present at the European Supply Chain Convention in Cologne

As PCB designs become more complex, the effects of dimensional instability have made registration control key to maintaining high yields. The key to understanding and improving registration compensation is to collect, understand and utilise measurement data from the in-process inspection steps. After collating sufficient data, it is possible to analyse this data and provide meaningful compensation information. By working with fabricators over a number of years, XACT PCB has devised a system to automatically capture, analyse and utilise measurement data from the shop floor processes. The data collated is used to determine the influence of different materials and process parameters upon the material movement happening in process. This data then enables CAM engineers at the design introduction stage to model the PCB build and simulate the material movement that will take place during the manufacturing processes. XACT's analysis methods provide a powerful visual tool to process engineers looking to reduce manufacturing errors and variability.
